We Pagans don't have to wait for one day a year to bless the animals. Do this spell as often as you want to. Bless the creatures who live in our homes, the animals on our farms, and the wild animals in our cities and the wilderness. Remember that we don't "own" any animals, because we cannot own another soul. That's enslavement.
To bless the creatures who share our homes, buy some bird, cat, dog, or reptile treats and stand or kneel beside the animal, cage, terrarium, or aquarium. Give the animal a treat and pet it (if possible) and say: "The Goddess blesses you and loves you. I honor you and share my home with you." For feral or wild animals (cats, squirrels, pigeons, crows, etc.), set out a few treats and speak the same words. For creatures like coyotes, bears, and alligators for whom it's not safe in your neighborhood, throw the treats into their territory and speak only the first sentence of the blessing. |
