In the Celtic ogham, trees are celebrated and revered. This is the end of Reed Month on the Celtic tree calendar. Reed (a tree-like plant) grows in and near the water of wetlands and gracefully yields to the ebb and flow of tides and winds. It’s a purifying and clarifying plant that is useful on vision quests, as it provides direction. For this vision quest, obtain some Celtic music featuring wind instruments made from reeds, such as flutes. Play the reed music, letting its haunting beauty evoke ancient times, and your place within them. Get in a comfortable position. Focus entirely on your breath for a few minutes. Inhale on a count of eight, then exhale slowly on an eight count. Continue for eight minutes, until you are relaxed. Slowly come back into yourself— wiggle your toes and shake out your hands. Open your eyes gradually. How do you feel? What did you see? Take notes. Continue this journey next year during Celtic Reed Month. |
