On this day in 1040, legend says that Lady Godiva rode naked on horseback, covered only by her long hair, for tax relief. Despite a lack of solid historical evidence, the legend of Godiva's famous procession remains a symbol of protest. Coventry once hosted an annual reenactment of the ride. Today the Godiva Festival has evolved into a three-day music event.
Largely considered myth, the story is still an inspiration for standing up for something you believe in. To that end, choose a piece of jewelry (or other item) to use as a talisman for your personal protest. It can be a literal symbol of a cause you support or a more private reminder of something you're fighting for. Charge your item using this chant: "For this cause I stand, I fight. I hold true to what is right. This symbol helps me stay on track, keeps me strong under attack" |
