Autumn is a great time to enjoy late-season fruits and vegetables, such as pumpkins, apples, figs, cabbages, and kale. Take advantage of these tasty and healthful foods at their peak. Something our family likes to do with extra apples is to create apple dolls as a symbol of abundance and protection.
Peel an apple and carve out facial features. Place the apple on a dowel and let it dry for several weeks. Attach wire for the body, and use fabric scraps to clothe it. Use seeds or buttons for the eyes and yarn for the hair. Place your apple doll near the hearth and say: "Bless this house with abundance to share, And protect this home from winter's glare. With the power of three times three, As I will it, so mote it be." When spring returns, add your apple head to the compost, releasing the spell. |
