Winter is often a time when we try to correct unhealthy habits, particularly those surrounding diet and exercise. But the cold months are a hard time to diet, because we need to eat more to stay warm. We just want to binge on TV and junk food, right? But we can intentionally improve our eating habits without depriving ourselves. One way to do this is to eat with intention.
On this new moon, make some soup ( plenty of easy recipes online!). A simple vegetable soup is perfect. When you're ready to eat dinner, set the table and sit down. Light a candle to suggest a ritual atmosphere. Eat the soup spoonful by spoonful, taking your time to really enjoy every aspect of it: how it looks, how it smells, the texture in your mouth, the taste. This new moon can mark the beginning of this new habit. Cultivating this mindfulness while eating can help us to avoid overeating or eating in a distracted way (such as in front of the TV or computer), which can lead to weight gain. |
