Apollo isn't the only deity in charge of the sun. Sun goddesses include Amaterasu, Brigid, Hathor, Rosmerta, Saule, Shapash, Sulis, and many others. When we see Mother Sun as the center of the solar system, we can perhaps see greater peace among the people who are "ruled" by the planets. When we see Mother Sun shining down upon our beautiful blue planet, we can begin to see her blessings flowing into all nations and all people, even those who acknowledge only father gods.
For Mother's Day, therefore, let us stand before our altars, upon which stand sun goddesses and symbols of sunny warmth and golden power. Say: "O Great Mother Sun, shine down upon us today. Make every day your day, our Golden Mother's Day. Shine into our hearts and minds and teach us that you give warmth and light to all of us, for we are all your children." |
