Oyuki, or Yuki-onna, is a Japanese snow spirit. She can be perilous in person, appearing as a pale woman with long black hair who can freeze unwary travelers in their tracks. But she can also be asked to bring or to banish snowstorms. Here is an incantation for each purpose.
To attract snow: "Oyuki, spirit of the winter snow and wind, come and dance for me bring long hair blowing and white kimono swirling and cold wet kisses come forth, Oyuki, and let us dance together in this frozen time" To repel snow: "Oyuki, goddess of blizzards and wintertime, pass by this place now lift up your white robes and tie back your wild hair and close your cold lips go on, Oyuki; some other time we shall play but not here, not now" |
