Today happens to be the International Day of the Disappeared. This peculiar-sounding day is actually an observance to acknowledge those who are imprisoned and held against their will at locations and under (often poor) conditions unknown to their loved ones. Today, set upon your altar an empty photo frame, perhaps with a sheet of blank white or black paper within it, to represent those whose condition, location, and life status are unknown. Place and light in front of it a single white candle of healing and memory. Additionally, you can add to this memorial fresh flowers of your choice to represent healing in the lives of all affected. Invoke and say a prayer to a compassionate and healing deity or spirit that you have a working relationship with, such as Archangel Michael or Raphael, the Celtic goddess Brigid, or perhaps the Buddhist goddess Tara. May all experience healing in the face of the unknown. |
