The Roman festival Vinalia Rustica was held today historically, and featured a ritual dedicated to the protection of vine crops and an abundant harvest.
Organize a Vinalia Rustica Feast. Invite neighbors, friends, and family. Make it a potluck, and request dishes featuring seasonal fruits and vegetables, locally produced where possible. Get several bottles of local wine. Set a table outdoors-on the deck, in the backyard, or on a balcony - under Jupiter's sky. Decorate with green and purple, the colors of grapes and garden flowers. Add four purple candles. When guests arrive, gather around the table, light the candles, and call in the directions. Invoke Jupiter, god of the sky, and Venus, goddess of the garden and wine, asking for weather blessings and garden protection. Toast the wealth of the season gathered at the table, and drink in the abundant harvest of good food, friends, and community. |
