In Scotland, Saint John's wort or Alla-Bhuidhe ("noble yellow plant") was one of the most prized of all sacred herbs. It was used to protect against sorcery, evil eye, and death, and also to bring the bearer peace, abundance, prosperity, and growth. It was kept secretly in the bodice of a woman's dress or in the vest of a man's outfit, always under the left arm. The plant was only considered to have power when it was accidentally found. If you come across the plant, recite this spell to harness its power:
Sacred yellow plant Found without seeking or searching Beside me forever! For luck of people and prosperity For luck of desires and wishes For luck in battle, and victory For herds and crops Plenty in fields and household On land, on sea, and on ocean I will gather this sacred plant So that mine may be its power Over all I see. |
