Color of the day: Black
Incense of the day: Rose Hypatia of Alexandria was a scholar, a mathematician, and a teacher in the Neoplatonic school. She also served as a librarian in the famous Library of Alexandria. Alas, some Christian priests did not approve of a Pagan scholar, especially a woman who taught men. They incited riots against her and eventually orchestrated her murder by a mob. She is a martyr among scholars, women, and Pagans alike. Honor her memory on Hypatia's Day by doing things that promote learning and tolerance. Donate money or books to your local library in her name. Teach a workshop on math magic. Attend a lecture at a local university or bookstore. Study Pagan history. Learn about gender studies. Put your energy where your ethics are. You don't have to work a spell to work magic-you can work magic by choosing actions that help shape the world in a more positive direction. |
