Spell: Mothers’ Dream Pillow Divination

Color of the Day
Incense of the Day

Color of the day: White
Incense of the day: Cedar

Tonight is the Norse Festival of Modresnach, or the Anglo-Saxon Mother Night. It is also called the Night of the Mothers in Germanic tradition, and it is from this holiday that many of our modern Yule and Christmas traditions derived. For instance, evergreen trees were decorated with lights to represent Yggdrasil, the Tree of Life, on which Odin hung. Feasts and presents celebrated the gifts that the goddesses give their earthly children. In modern Pagan tradition, it is seen as a time to honor the Mother before the New Year is born. Older customs remember the mothers who have passed from this world and the wisdom that may still share with us. Thus, this is considered the best night for having insightful dreams about the coming year. Fill a bag or small pillow with lavender flowers, mugwort, and hops. Also add some sweet marjoram for dreams concerning present and future romantic relationships. If you are pregnant, use lavender alone. Before you go to bed, smell the bag and place it beside your pillow, asking:

Dear mothers,
I thank you for your guidance and wisdom.
On this long, dark night,
I ask that you fill my dreams with visions.
Grant me the guiding light of future truths.
Blessed Be.
