The Japanese revere the mum so much that they've set aside this day to honor the plant. The mum is a symbol of autumn, and also mystical. They are ruled by the Sun, the giver of life and protection, and protect the garden from evil. One of the mum's little-known magical qualities is its ability to bring about visions when scrying with fire. To do this, combine dried mum leaves with dried rose leaves and petals of the autumn crocus. Crush this mixture into a powder. Sprinkle it on the flames of the autumn or winter fire. Watch for any symbols, faces, names, or numbers that may appear. Hold your gaze steady as you think of your question. Set the mood by saying: "Flames dance and spark.
