Color of the day: Brown
Incense of the day: Neroli June 9 is the festival of Vestalia, honoring Vesta, the goddess of hearth and home. Ovid said of her: "Vesta was fire, and fire was Vestal." In ancient times, barefoot mothers brought offerings of bread to Vesta that they baked in their ovens. To honor Vesta, use your favorite bread recipe. Yeast breads are the best, but if you are short on time make a batter bread instead. Your kitchen table will serve as the altar. Assemble your ingredients, and light a yellow candle, saying: Vesta, great goddess of hearth and flame, Bless this work and offering! Prepare your bread dough with reverence. Think of your family and the blessings you wish for them. When the dough is resting in the bowl, say: O Vesta grant me thy favor. |
