Monday is family day-so why not throw a tea party for your own family today? After everyone has come home from work or school, serve lotus tea (available at specialty tea shops and at some Starbucks), and lotus buns (available at Chinese bakeries). The lotus is sacred to many pantheons. The Egyptian deities revere the lotus, as do the Hindu gods and goddesses. For more traditional Chinese items to add to your tea, include a statue of Kuan Yin along with some water lilies in a bowl of water (true lotuses are hard to find in the U.S.). Burn lotus incense as well. Make it a theme party with appropriate incense and attire and the kids will love it; or make it a romantic evening for just the two of you in kimonos, enjoying the sensuous taste and scent of lotus. |
