Spell: Window Fluff Your World

Color of the Day
Incense of the Day

Window fluff was a popular Yuletide fad in the 1950s because it mimicked a snowy scene and allowed the kids to paint the winter onto any window in the house. Easy to make, it smells amazing and deters spiders and other pests like ticks. Kids especially will delight in hours of creative fun. To make it more sustainable, the fluff can be collected from the windows and recycled for use in the laundry or mopping water when all that spring cleaning begins in earnest. Gather these ingredients:

  • 6 drops peppermint oil
  • 2 drops pine oil
  • 1 drop eucalyptus oil
  • ¼ cup warm lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • 1 egg white • 1 cup potato starch
  • 1 cup borax
  • Warm water as needed

Start by adding the three oils to the lemon juice. Then, in a standing mixer, whip the egg white into hard peaks, then slowly add the starch and borax, alternating with the lemon juice mixture. Keep mixing on medium low until light and fluffy. If dry, add warm water as needed to achieve a light and fluffy consistency. Wear gloves and hand-paint snowy scenes on windows or dip, press, and peel lace to create patterns.
