Today, in Japan and China, two star festivals are held: Tanabata(celebrating the reunion of two celestial lovers) and Chih Nu (the annual feast of the Milky Way). Let these be your inspiration, and plan to get outside tonight for some star watching. If you live in a dense urban area, choose a park with lots of trees and little ambient light. Be safe: take a friend or two or three, plus a blanket, a picnic, and a pillow. Stretch out on your back, relax, and let the wonder of the starry universe dazzle you. Know that even in the darkness there are stars, and in the depth of life's problems there is light. As you gaze at the wonder of the night sky, intone:
"Like the night sky, my future lies before me, vast, twinkling, and limitless. By starlight, I am blessed. So mote it be." |
