So many (one might say all) Christian church holidays are borrowed or adapted from Pagan celebrations.
In the Catholic Church, this is All Souls Day. On this day the church honors the departed with a special mass. The names of those who have passed are written on slips of paper, and the papers are placed in a basket or container and blessed by the priest. Perform your own adaptation. Write the names of your dearly departed on brightly colored pieces of paper or index cards, and place in a glass bowl. Set the bowl on your altar with votive candles: blue for autumn and gold for Sunday. Meditate on those you honor. Concentrate on all the positive aspects of their lives. If possible, allow the candles to burn down completely. |
