POSTED UNDER Blessing, Earth

Sacrifice for Thanks

Color of the day:  Rose
Incense of the day:  Alder

The holidays of Good Friday and Passover are about sacrifice. Christians believe that Jesus sacrificed his life for the good of others, and they commemorate that on Good Friday. Passover is a commemoration of the time when the Jewish people marked their doorposts with the blood of a sacrificial lamb, sparing them from the Angel of Death.

Most magical traditions today don’t demand sacrifice, but making a small sacrifice can be powerful magic. For this spell you will need a small bit of food or drink that you truly enjoy. (The leftovers you weren’t going to eat don’t count!) Once you’ve picked out your food or drink, take it outside to a secluded spot where you can leave it on the ground undisturbed. (Bushes work great for this!)

Before sharing your sacrifice, thank any higher powers (deities, ancestors, spirits, fey, the Earth/ natural world) you work with for the blessings in your life. Ask for nothing in return. Simply leave your offering as a sign of thanks. Reciprocity is real, and the powers you serve will give blessings to you in return.
