To speed your mail, smudge the envelope with the smoke of dried cinquefoil (a plant with five-pointed leaves)-one of the herbs of Mercury. For e-mail, try smudging the phone wire; or, for wireless e-mail, smudge your cell phone or hand-held computer. Speak this chant as you smudge:

Iris, speed my mail-
Large or small, curse or hail!
Bless my missives on their way
And elementals shall obey!
