Memorial Day is a time for remembering those who have fallen in combat. You do not need to have known someone personally to communicate your thanks. You can honor those who have crossed over by creating your own red poppy to decorate your altar. You will need a small amount of red and black felt, along with some floral wire or green pipe cleaner. Cut out the flower portion from the red felt, and cut out a circle of black felt. Stack the two together, then cut or poke two small holes near the center. Place the wire up through one of the holes and then down the other. Twist the ends together to create the stem. You can create one to honor all those lost in battle, or more if you have a more personal loss. Place the poppies on your altar with reverence while saying:
"I remember and honor your spirit."
Spend some time in quiet contemplation and communion.
