Meditation Aid from Shiva

Color of the day:  Orange
Incense of the day:  Juniper

Today is the Hindu festival Maha Shivaratri, celebrating the god Shiva. Shiva is the master of meditation and is known to meditate high in the Himalayan mountains for years at a time. Because of this he is often referred to as the "King of All Yogis."
If you are having trouble developing a regular meditation practice, or you simply want to strengthen your existing meditation skills, today is the perfect day to pray to Lord Shiva and petition his assistance. Sit in a comfortable position and visualize Shiva while reciting this simple mantra to him:

"Om namah Shivaya!"

Repeat the mantra 108 times (a sacred number in Hinduism). You may wish to use a prayer mala to keep track of your recitations. Allow yourself to enter a meditative state as you repetitively recite the prayer mantra and become more focused. When finished, bow in oblation of gratitude.
