A Spell for Untangling Communications

If you ever feel like communications with another person are tangled and going nowhere, you may wish to use this untangling spell. First, go off by yourself and take with you a piece of rope or cord at least twenty feet long. Throw it in the air repeatedly until it is thoroughly tangled. This represents your attempts at communication so far. Now sit down, center yourself, and breathe deeply. As you untangle the cord, ask yourself what single message you want to get across to the other party. Then ask yourself if you are really willing to hear the other's message. When you next talk to that person, take three short pieces of the cord along in your pocket. Use them to remember anything you've contributed to the misunderstanding, to restate the outcome you hope for, and to invite the other person to explain the position again.
