Mix together 21/2 cups flour with 1 teaspoon baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon each salt, cinnamon, and cloves. Stir in 1/2 cup chopped pecans (I always consider nuts optional.)and 1 tablespoon anise. Shape into two rolls measuring 10 inches long. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours. Cut into 1/4-inch thick slices. Bake about 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets at 375 degrees F for 8 to 10 minutes. Share with friends and loved ones.
