Girls in Japan lay out a red cloth and arrange dolls that represent the Emperor and Empress, their attendants, the girl's own ancestors, and other worthy personages. These displays can be simple or quite elaborate. Dolls represent the past, both in terms of your own childhood and your ancestors. Did you play with dolls or action figures in your youth? Which were your favorites, and why? Did you imagine that your dolls could move or talk? Sometimes spirit guides or other guardians take the form of a doll so they can interact with children. Honor the dolls of your past by displaying them or pictures of them. If you can afford it, buy a nice doll for a needy child who might not otherwise have one. |
