This is a wonderful time to celebrate not only the well-known poet, but also your friends and family with a delicious meal, good drink, and great fun. Your supper need not be traditional. Make it a potluck or have a few friends over to cook your favorite foods. Be sure that beverages for toasting are plentiful and include a truly fabulous dessert. It is traditional for bagpiping to accompany the arrival of guests and the main dish. A formal welcome to the guests opens the supper. Follow this with toasts to everyone and everything, including the meal. The toast to the "lassies" by the men and the reply to that by the "lassies" is usually full of joking and teasing. And remember to end by singing "Auld Lang Syne." |
