Color of the day: Green Incense of the day: Mulberry Incense of the day: Mulberry Today marks the Islamic new year, the first of two that will happen this year. Because the Muslim calendar falls eleven to twelve days short of the solar calendar, all Islamic holidays migrate through the seasons over the years. While Muslims do not officially celebrate the new year, some exchange gifts and cards in memory of the emigration of the prophet Muhammed, while others mourn martyr Imam Hussein, and still others commemorate the death of the first Caliph, Abu Bakr. There are two things to contemplate for all people of faith: death and life. Choose a loved one or a role model who is deceased. Write a letter to that person, telling him or her how you intend to live your life in honor of what that person taught you. Put this in a bottle and hide it in a space sacred to you. Check your letter in a year. |
