We have all encountered those who insist on being one up on us. When you share a photo of your child/spouse/home/car/anything, that person points out that they have it bigger and better. You mention a job you had in the past, and they have had a bigger and better one. You mention a spot of good fortune, and, yes, they have experienced something bigger and better. Most of us get used to this and find ways to avoid including those people in conversations. Possibly more annoying is the person who has had it worse. Fender bender? They have totaled a vehicle. Illness? They have been so much sicker. Try to be patient with these types, minimize time spent with them, or weed them out of your life if necessary. At the very least, here is a spell for tolerance: Tolerance requested and tolerance given; out of my sphere may negativity be driven. |
