Most countries have some equivalent of Mother's Day.
Traditionally we show our appreciation for our mothers with cards, gifts, breakfast in bed, or maybe a nice restaurant meal. On this day we can go beyond honoring our own mothers: we can honor anyone who has nurtured us, including siblings, aunts or uncles, friends, teachers, or even our own children. Try giving a card or some flowers to someone who has nurtured you. Those who follow earth-based spiritual paths can honor the Great Mother in all of her forms and names: Mother Nature, Mother Earth, the Horned God's Consort, Athena, Hera, Hecate, Cerridwen, Demeter, Ceres. Which mother goddess inspires you or makes you feel whole? Maybe you connect with the Earth itself as a mother. Place a reminder of your mother on your altar: a photo, a piece of jewelry or other keepsake, or a small globe to remind you of your Mother the Earth. |
